USAKOS – A delegation from the Usakos Municipality is expected to pay a courtesy call on Mines and Energy Minister Erkki Nghimtina today.
The Chief Executive Officer of the local authority, Joseph Esau Janzen, told Nampa that the visit is part of the Council’s campaign to solicit support for Usakos to benefit as a mining town. He said the reason for this is because of the many mining activities taking place in the Erongo Region which imply that nearby towns like Usakos, Arandis, Karibib and Swakopmund should benefit from the mining industry.Discussions are currently ongoing with the Valencia Uranium Project to be the mine that will associate itself with Usakos. The local authority delegation also called on Minister for Presidential Affairs Albert Kawana, who promised to convey the message to President Hifikepunye Pohamba.Three new uranium mines opened their doors recently in the Erongo region, including the Langer Heinrich Uranium Mine and the Valencia Uranium Project. The first uranium mine in the country, Roessing Uranium, has expanded its mine life by about 20 years.NampaHe said the reason for this is because of the many mining activities taking place in the Erongo Region which imply that nearby towns like Usakos, Arandis, Karibib and Swakopmund should benefit from the mining industry.Discussions are currently ongoing with the Valencia Uranium Project to be the mine that will associate itself with Usakos. The first uranium mine in the country, Roessing Uranium, has expanded its mine life by about 20 years.Nampa
