Uproar over rape suspect teacher

RESIDENTS at Otjinene are up in arms over a school teacher being allowed to continue teaching after he was recently arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a young girl.

On June 7, 27-year old Mulimwa Bruno Simana appeared before Magistrate Helen Boluwade in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court. Simana had been arrested a day earlier and charged with rape – said to involve a Namcol learner at the town.He was granted N$500 bail, which he paid, and was told to return to court on July 17.Since his release on bail, Simana has resumed his duties at the Gustav Kandjii Junior Secondary School.The Director of the Omaheke Regional Office, Theophilus Kamupingene, said last week that the school was waiting for the court case to be completed before deciding on whether or not to take internal disciplinary action against him.Simana had been arrested a day earlier and charged with rape – said to involve a Namcol learner at the town.He was granted N$500 bail, which he paid, and was told to return to court on July 17.Since his release on bail, Simana has resumed his duties at the Gustav Kandjii Junior Secondary School.The Director of the Omaheke Regional Office, Theophilus Kamupingene, said last week that the school was waiting for the court case to be completed before deciding on whether or not to take internal disciplinary action against him.
