LESS than a month after the petrol price was lowered, motorists have once again been shocked with a big price hike effective tomorrow.
Petrol will go up by 50 cents a litre while diesel will be go up by 30 cents a litre. The new Walvis Bay pump prices will be N$6,18 per litre of unleaded petrol, N$6,16 for a litre of lead replacement petrol (LRP) and N$6,40 for a litre of diesel. For Windhoek motorists, a litre of unleaded petrol will now cost N$5,86 with LRP costing N$5,84 and diesel N$6,09 a litre. This is the ?rst increase of the year by the Ministry of Mines and Energy after two minimal cuts of 20 cents and 14 cents per litre of petrol in January and March. The Namibian yesterday learnt that the increase was brought about by the major fuel price hike in South Africa earlier this month, which saw petrol prices shoot up by 68 cents a litre. This trickles down to Namibia because the country imports all its fuel from South Africa.
