LOG leaders Reho Falcon suffered their second defeat of the season, while United beat Rehoboth to go second on the log in Round 12 MTC Rugby Premier League matches on Saturday.
In Rehoboth, Suburbs opened the scoring with a converted try by wing Sergio de la Harpe, but Falcons went ahead after tries by eighthman Philippus Isaacs, flanker Jakkals Benade and their right wing.Just before the break Suburbs came back with a try by centre Justin Nel converted by TC Losper.Suburbs finished stronger in the second half, scoring further tries by eighthman Brendon Walters and wing Llewellyn Winckler to clinch victory.Suburbs’s coach Walter Donn said their pack of forwards laid the foundation for the victory.’We dominated the forward exchanges, with young players like Munee Tjiueza and Harold Kasera and our eighthman Brandon Walters doing very well, while Roger Thompson had a great match at centre.’Despite the victory, Suburbs remain fifth on the log and are virtually out of the running for a semifinal spot, but Donn was not giving up hope.’We must collect maximum points in our final two matches against Wanderers and Kudus, and hope Mariental slip up in their final two matches,’ he said.Despite the defeat, they still lead the log with 46 points and have a game in hand, although United and Rehoboth are now only two points behind.United beat Rehoboth 27-14 at their home ground in Olympia to move second on the log.United took a 12-0 lead after four penalties by flanker Winmar Rust, but Rehoboth bounced back with two great tries by fullback Desmond Snyders, both converted by McGeegan Christians.United’s pressure however told in the second half as they ran in two great tries by flanker Morne Blom and centre David Philander to win the match.The victory sees United and Rehoboth level on 44 points but United move into second spot due to a better points aggregate.In Walvis Bay, Kudus beat Wanderers 48-17, running in eight tries in the process to collect maximum bonus points.
