‘Unite behind the RDP for change’

DENOUNCING the current style of governance in Namibia, Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) vice president Steve Bezuidenhoudt has urged Keetmanshoop residents to unite behind the RDP party.

Addressing an RDP rally at a packed JF Stephanus Stadium at Keetmanshoop on Saturday, Bezuidenhoudt vowed that the RDP would implement changes if voted into power. ‘Change from a misery Government to a Government of real freedom and prosperity. Change from hospitals without medicines to hospitals that offer medical care. Change from Outapi tear gas to real freedom of choice. Change from a President who cannot decide to a President that can take decisions. Change from a bursary-grabbing Government to a Government that will offer bursaries,’ Bezuidenhoudt highlighted the changes RDP has in mind. ‘We’ll not forget 100 bursaries on the table but will offer them to 100 children.’ He urged RDP supporters to take responsibility if they want change. ‘Change from Swapo to RDP. Change from Pohamba to Hamutenya’.Referring to a recent UN Food and Agriculture report revealing that about 400 000 Namibians are starving, Bezuidenhoudt remarked: ‘Even during the colonial regime this had not happened.’He further claimed that young people born after Independence are not born-frees but born in the time of ‘economic slavery and unemployment’. RDP Central Committee member Fillemon Kanime said regional councillors like Hilma Nikanor (Swapo’s Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Regional Councillor) and those serving in similar positions in Karasburg and Oranjemund Constituencies, were put there to neglect development in the South. ‘We’ll bring to an end this kind of leadership if voted into power,’ Kanime said.Accusing Swapo leaders of clinging to the past, RDP Central Committee member Trougott Kaffer said changes are needed for the betterment of all Namibians. ‘Liberation is over,’ said Kaffer. He said the RDP could no longer wait and see how the country ‘is going down the drain’ under the Swapo-led Government.
