Unam Should Relax Requirements

IT IS so exciting that the University of Namibia has an engineering school that offers a lot of modern courses but there are unfair procedures that are followed when students are admitted to this school.

The faculty take in only few students each year because a lot of applicants have not scored either a grade 2 in mathematics or minimum C in English. Apparently the Engineering Council of Namibia suggested that applicants should have obtained a C grade or better in English.I don’t get the point regarding English as a requirement since there are students who study engineering abroad in different languages but they still get registered by the Engineering Council of Namibia as professional engineers upon completion of their studies.Unam should consider students up to a D in English because young applicants with good symbols in mathematics and physical science are rejected every year due to low grades in English. The engineering faculty can at least have sympathy with the students who would love to study engineering but do not meet the requirements perfectly, by organising math and science aptitude tests, before registrationSome students only need a fair test and the faculty will be convinced that there are aspiring engineers who are just sitting at home because they cannot study anything else apart from engineering that they did not get admitted to. Some students do not have the right marks, but they are capable.O N KatetaBy email
