UNAM beat Windhoek Old Boys 3-2 over the weekend to extend their lead at the top of the Telecom Namibia Indoor Hockey Men’s Premier League.
In an exciting match on non-stop action, Unam took the lead through Heini Swartbooi after 8m.
WOB pushed hard for the equaliser with former Unam star Siabonga Martins leading the assault, but Unam would not budge and a defining moment of the game came on 14m.Martins led a WOB attack into Unam’s penalty area, but Unam’s young striker Kave Tjikuniva counterattacked with a great run to score a brilliant solo goal at the other end to put Unam 2-0 in front.Unam went 3-0 up early in the second half after a penalty by Penda Nambala, but WOB immediately struck back with a goal by Wiehan Strydom.WOB pushed hard in the final stages and Martins finally got a second goal in the last minute, but it was too little too late as Unam held on for victory.Unam are now unbeaten after four matches and lead the log with 15 points, followed by WOB on 8, the X Team on 5, DTS on 1 and Wanderers on zero points.In a Women’s Premier League match on Saturday, Marianne Loubser played a starring role as WOB beat Unam 6-0.She scored five of WOB’s six goals, including a hattrick before halftime, with Jocelle Deysel scoring their sixth goal.WOB however remain second on the Women’s Premier League log on 8 points, having won two of their three matches.DTS who are still unbeaten after three matches lead the log on 12 points.Wanderers are third on three points while Unam must still open their account. – namibiasport.com.na
