Ueitele takes up High Court post

AFTER two stints as an acting judge of the High Court, former Electoral Commissioner Shafimana Ueitele has received a permanent appointment as a member of Namibia’s judiciary.

President Hifikepunye Pohamba appointed Ueitele on recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, as a judge of the High Court with effect from July 1.Ueitele (48) also served as an acting judge of the High Court for five months in 2010 and again for a month and a half earlier this year.Ueitele studied law at the University of Zimbabwe, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1990. He obtained a master’s degree in law at the University of the West Indies in Barbados in 1992.Admitted as a legal practitioner in Namibia in January 1994, he first worked as a legal advisor in the Ministry of Justice, before taking up employment with the City of Windhoek. In 2000 he went into private legal practice with his own law firm, now operating under the name Ueitele & Hans Legal Practitioners.Ueitele has also been attached to the Law Faculty at the University of Namibia as a senior lecturer.He was appointed as an Electoral Commissioner in 2000, and served two five-year terms in that post at the Electoral Commission of Namibia.
