Two die in Karas car crashes

ONE man died and another was injured in a car accident involving a Karas Regional Council vehicle on Saturday.

Enslin Swartbooi (20), a passenger in the car, registration number GRN 80462, died at the scene of the accident on the B1 road about 18 kilometres north of Keetmanshoop.The injured passenger, Elvis Boois, was admitted to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital with serious injuries.Police are still trying to find out who the driver of the vehicle was. It is alleged that the vehicle veered off the road after the unknown driver had lost control. By yesterday Police were still trying to find the trip authority for the vehicle. The Namibian has been informed that correct procedures were not followed when the vehicle was booked out. Acting Karas Regional Council Chief Regional Officer, Saul Kahuika, yesterday declined to comment on the circumstances of the accident. In a seperate car accident, on the gravel road between Seeheim and the Fish River Canyon on Saturday afternoon, an employee of the Fish River Canyon Lodge, George Mavhunga, died instantly after the Toyota station wagon he was driving left the road and overturned. Mavhungu was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident, Police reported. luqman@namibian.com.na
