TWO children, a four-year-old and an 18-month-old toddler, drowned in the North on Wednesday.
Peneyambeko Shilamo (4) from Oshitishiwa village in the Okongo constituency drowned in a bucket of tombo (home brew) while baby Veronika Shimba from Odibo drowned in a bucket of water.Ohangwena Police Commander Armas Shivute, who confirmed the two incidents, said the Police are still investigating both cases.Shivute said early indications are that Shilamo was thirsty and went to a nearby cuca shop where he allegedly opened one of the tombo containers looking for something to drink.Since the container was taller than her, she fell in head first and could not get out. There was nobody nearby and she drowned.Shimba was allegedly at home with parents but walked away from them without their knowledge. She came across a bucket of water and while trying to drink, fell into it.Shivute appealed to parents and guardians to always look after their children.’These kinds of incidents are now happening many times in the region, and we cannot afford to continue losing young ones in that way,’ Shivute said.Police are also investigating possible negligence.
