Two arrested on poisoning claims

THE Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after two men allegedly poisoned a customer’s beer at a bar at Omafo in the Ohangwena region.

Warrant Officer Joshua Shipateko of the Eenhana Police told The Namibian yesterday that two suspects had been arrested and were in custody at Ohangwena. Shipateko said the incident occurred at a bar at Omafo at the beginning of this month.Eenhana Police Deputy Commissioner Armas Shivute said investigations into the incident are expected to be finalised by tomorrow.A court source said that the drinker was warned by another customer not to drink his beer as it had been poisoned while he left the bar for a short time.The man who allegedly poisoned the beer and the person who supplied the substance were arrested.The beer has been sent to Engela Hospital for tests.The two men appeared in court on January 5 and the case was been postponed to March 20.No bail was granted and the men are still in custody.Shipateko said the incident occurred at a bar at Omafo at the beginning of this month.
