TUNACOR in Walvis Bay recently opened its new staff dining hall and inaugurated its new fishing vessel, ‘MFV Katuka’ – all worth a total investment of N$40 million.
‘This is proof that our struggle against the oppressive colonial forces of the past was successful. In the past, workers had to sit outside in the cold and eat their food. Now they have a nice clean dining hall. This ensures worker satisfaction, which will in return improve productivity on all levels,’ said Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Bernhard Esau.He also praised Tunacor for keeping in step with his earlier request to the fishing industry to upgrade the Namibian fleet. In the case of the N$35 million ‘Katuka’, it replaced two older vessels of the company.Tunacor’s Managing Director, Antonio Marino, said the new dining hall was built within the family-concept.’We are a family here at Tunacor and this dining hall can be seen as an improvement to our home,’ he said.As for the new fishing vessel, Marino said that the investment proved the company’s confidence in the future of Namibia’s fishing industry.
