A TRUCK driver was killed in a head-on collision with another truck at Walvis Bay yesterday morning.
Witnesses told The Namibian that ‘it was something horrible’. The deceased was apparently ‘hanging out of the wreckage’.’The trucks are smashed beyond recognition. The one is basically torn in half,’ a witness who phoned from the scene said.The accident happened at about 09h00 near the weighbridge on the road from town to the Walvis Bay Airport.St Gabriel’s Community Ambulance in Walvis Bay was at the scene to assist. The deceased was a driver of Suidwes Diensstasie. His name was Salat Goroseb (64). He had to be cut out of the wreckage with the local fire brigade’s jaws-of-life. He leaves behind his wife and children.The driver in the other vehicle; a tipper truck of JJD Earthmoving, was taken to hospital for serious head and neck injuries. His name is Josua Haukongola (32).Information has it that a truck in front of Goroseb’s was apparently entering the weighbridge. He allegedly tried to pass the truck and did not see the oncoming truck. The two collided head-on.According to witnesses, a third person was allegedly in Goroseb’s truck, but this could not be confirmed as no third person was found on the scene.
