IN the Road Traffic and Transportation Section 22/1999 the following are prohibited: (a) unsafe transportation and overloading of passengers (b) illegal transporting of passengers etc.
Now on a recent Sunday afternoon at 13h50 at the crossing of Hochland Road and Hendrik Witbooi Ave, a funeral procession was escorted by traffic officers (three vehicles) One had the registration number N56567W. One vehicle was a bakkie with a canopy, which was loaded with people, some of whom were sitting on the tailgate, which hung open. This is the second time I have seen this. This is done in plain sight of the traffic officers.I have previously, March 29, reported this matter to the Municipality of Windhoek’s Mr Katoma. It would also be appropriate if all traffic officers would see to it that employers stop transporting workers on bakkies, as they are not licensed to transport passengers. Many times more than five people are carried on the back of the bakkie.Even Police cars are transporting people that way.It would be nice if something can be done about this misuse of transporting passengers. Why do we have traffic regulations and do they not apply if someone dies and all are on a funeral procession?Reinhold Rauter Via e-mailOne vehicle was a bakkie with a canopy, which was loaded with people, some of whom were sitting on the tailgate, which hung open. Why do we have traffic regulations and do they not apply if someone dies and all are on a funeral procession?
