Traditional law research vital: Chief Iipumbu

COMPREHENSIVE research on traditional and customary laws in Namibia is vital, as it will strengthen governance in traditional authorities, a senior chief of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority said this week.

Chief Herman Iipumbu said such research would help define the problems traditional authorities face in executing their duties. “Results of this research will also bring useful information that will help in the training of people studying law in Namibia,” said Iipumbu. He made these remarks when he launched a book titled ‘The Shade of New Leaves – Governance in Traditional Authorities: A Southern African Perspective’.The book is a compilation of speeches and contributions made at an international conference on customary laws and traditional governance held in Windhoek in 2004.The book was compiled and edited by Professor Manfred Hinz.”Results of this research will also bring useful information that will help in the training of people studying law in Namibia,” said Iipumbu. He made these remarks when he launched a book titled ‘The Shade of New Leaves – Governance in Traditional Authorities: A Southern African Perspective’.The book is a compilation of speeches and contributions made at an international conference on customary laws and traditional governance held in Windhoek in 2004.The book was compiled and edited by Professor Manfred Hinz.
