The seventh edition of the Top Score Oshiwana seven-a-side tournament was officially launched at Oshakati on Tuesday.

The annual competition, which was initiated in 2018, starts at the Embadu Stadium today and concludes on Saturday.

It provides a platform for northern football, netball and volleyball teams to showcase their talent.

The football section has attracted 71 teams, with 10 teams registered for volleyball and nine entries for netball.

Speaking at the launch, tournament promoter Jackson da Silva said the tournament promotes healthy lifestyles, social cohesion and acts as a catalyst for economic development in the country.

“We believe the Top Score Oshiwana seven-a-side tournament to be the one of the most effective events to build and achieve a caring, united and socially cohesive community,” Da Silva said.

The organisers expressed delight with the growth of the tournament, having gone from 47 teams in the first edition to 90 entries in the seventh.

Speaking at the event, Namib Mills brand manager Diego Talaya said the football winner will walk away with N$10 000, second place gets N$8 000, and third place will be awarded N$5 000.

“Volleyball and netball both have the same prize money, which is N$7 000 for the first prize, N$5 000 for second place and N$3 000 for third place.

“Whether you will be there to defend your title, seek a new victory or just to enjoy the competition on the sideline, we do all of this to include all of you in these communities as part of the Top Score family,” said Talaya.
