Time for Hitman, Mutu to show mettle

NAMIBIA’S Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses only met his opponent Mihaita Mutu from Romania for the first time on Tuesday, and their encounter will not be as friendly.

They are going head to head to see who will be the new champion of the WBA Intercontinental title. The winner will be ranked in the top 10 by the WBA.Moses will enjoy home-ground advantage, but his opponent has already said that this fight will be a walk in the park compared to the fights that he has fought in Europe. But for Moses, each fight is a must-win and he plans to topple his opponent in round six.He says this round is his favourite because by then, he has garnered enough steam and will prove unbearable for his opponent.Hitman has a record of 16 wins in his professional career and his trainer Nestor Tobias believes that he has a bright future.Nestor said earlier this week that he was optimistic that his boxer would stop the visitor in his tracks despite Mutu regarding himself as the better fighter. The Romanian, who was more relaxed and smiled constantly at a press conference earlier this week, said he could have been the European champion today.Mutu apparently lost the European title on a controversial points decision in January this year against Juan Carlos Melero Diaz from Spain. He has emigrated to France and acquired French citizenship.Moses looks sturdier than Mutu and weighed in at 63.7 kg before the bout, while Mutu stood at 62.8 kg.Despite that, Mutu has stepped into the ring more often than Moses, and in his 24 professional fights, he has won 16, lost six and drawn two.Moses will not be deterred by that record and has indicated that he fears no one and records do not matter to him .The event starts at 18h00 at the Windhoek Country Club, as there are several undercard fights.Telecom Namibia is the main sponsor of the Box and Dine showdown.
