Time For Actions And Answers

Please allow me a bit of space in your daily to air my views on the SSC saga. This is the second one, right? And then there are those of the Roads Authority, and many others that were not investigated yet, such as that of the Airports Company.

And what about the N$100 million at the ODC? Not to mention those that we do not know of. People of Namibia, is this what we work hard for? Just to benefit a few fat cats, the same people we elected and entrusted with the public affairs? I for one do not think so.And I do not pay N$2 000 plus in tax and deductions towards the state coffers for this.I think it’s time that all of these enquiries were concluded. It is time that our leaders start to lead by example. Those top officials who are entangled in this kind of conduct should immediately relinquish their positions; they should be suspended without pay because they have already paid themselves. To say the least corporate governance in Namibia is close to non-existent.So are ethics. What are we teaching our children? In Namibia we are not vocal, for whatever reason I do not know, but these people are making us all poorer.Basic services are so expensive, even for old-age pensioners, but where does the welfare money go? To the elite few.And who do they think they are? I think it’s time to act together and get rid of this sickness. The Head of State must act on this and the opposition should live up to its promises as well. Why are they so quiet? My feeling is that people of Namibia are too quiet and do not care about what happens to 30% of their salaries and I believe this should change immediately. It’s time we got answers and not only on the SSC, but on all the outstanding enquiries that have been half-concluded.I also recommend that all other parastatals be investigated. It is even more alarming to learn that the former Head of State may be involved in this. The level of greed and graft among some top leaders is frightening and perhaps even worse than HIV-AIDS.Come the judgement day, those who are found guilty should be punished and should be made to account for every single cent.Otherwise, it’s time for every taxpayer to boycott paying taxes because it’s worthless to do so.I also call for more discussion on this subject at National Assembly level (what will be done and when). It is time for action. It is time we demand answers.PJ WindhoekPeople of Namibia, is this what we work hard for?
