Tigers edge Black Africa

A WELL-ORGANISED Tigers team showed no early-season rustiness in their first premier league outing on Friday as they defeated Black Africa 1-0.

Although BA bossed proceedings, the resolute Tigers kept their shape and frustrated their neat-passing opponents’ game plan. Pineas Jacob got the only goal of the game before halftime, when, against the run of play and after good work from Ananias Gebhardt down the left wing, his header nestled beyond the reach of BA goalkeeper Arnold Subeb.
Bradley Wermann had BA’s best chance when he had the beating of Tigers goalkeeper Charles Uirab but his dragged shot hit the post. BA wasted several free-kicks close to the Tigers penalty box in either half and although they stepped up the tempo in the second half, the Tigers defence held firm.
Elsewhere, second-from-bottom Blue Boys held third-placed Orlando Pirates to a 2-all draw on Saturday, with sixth Mighty Gunners edging Eleven Arrows 1-0. Arrows are rooted to the bottom of the league although they have a game in hand. Oshakati City picked up an away point against Civics following their 1-1- draw to go second on the log standings.
Blue Waters went down 0-1 at home to table topping Ramblers, who along with Tigers have a 100 per cent record
Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) drew 1-1 with defending league champions African Stars on Wednesday.
