Tigers and Stars out of MTC Cup

CYMOT SKW and Ramblers made their way to the quarterfinals of the MTC Cup by downing Tigers and African Stars at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday night.

SKW managed to squeeze their way to the last eight with a 4-3 win during a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 draw at full-time, while Ramblers landed their spot through a 2-1 win over Stars. Veteran Tigers midfielder Page Ananias had no luck on his side when his shot went wide to give the Olympia side their first entry into the quarterfinals of the most lucrative cup competition in the country. The winner will walk away with over N$300 000 when the final is decided in Windhoek in May.The loss by Tigers signalled a bad start for their newly acquired coach Bobby Samaria, who resigned from Black Africa about two weeks ago to take up the hot seat at Tigers left by Ali Akan.SKW, who were promoted to the elite league this season, will now meet Ramblers in the quarterfinals, which will be played at the end of April. In the other match, Ramblers striker Lazarus Kaimbi found the net in the first five minutes, but his goal was cancelled by Freedom Puriza who put away a penalty after Brouwers Litombo was brought down in the box through a back-charge.Ramblers, who generally have a good goal-scoring record at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, found the net for their second goal through a well-taken dead-ball shot by Bernadine Mbilizi.Stars goalie Sitali Mulife, who has proven to be one of the most exciting shot-stoppers in the country, had no chance as the ball hit the inside of the goal roof. The quarterfinals of the MTC Cup are scheduled to take place in Oshakati on April 29 and 30: The fixtures are: April 29: Oshakati City vs Blue Waters Cymot SKW vs Ramblers April 30: Eleven Arrows vs Orlando Pirates Civics vs Chief SantosVeteran Tigers midfielder Page Ananias had no luck on his side when his shot went wide to give the Olympia side their first entry into the quarterfinals of the most lucrative cup competition in the country. The quarterfinals of the MTC Cup are scheduled to take place in Oshakati on April 29 and 30: The fixtures are: April 29: Oshakati City vs Blue Waters Cymot SKW vs Ramblers April 30: Eleven Arrows vs Orlando Pirates Civics vs Chief Santos
