THE letter ‘White Elephant on the Jetty’ by “Concerned” smacks of jealousy and is so negative that it really cannot be left unchallenged! It really seems as if the writer intended to run an oyster bar on the Jetty but was not awarded the tender and is now sour.
So why attack the Tiger Reef Bar? To state that once it was charming is a joke! Tiger Reef was a rundown, badly managed dead loss with stinking toilets! Since the current concessionaire took over it has become a venue that attracts a lot of support and is obviously successful. To say it represents a circus is simply not true! But this is not about Tiger Reef, so I will leave it at that! The developers’ proposals to the Town Council were done in a professional manner and it is obvious that a lot of thought and research has gone into the project. The proposal will present much more than just a pier for fishing and strolling! The structures etc.are in line of what was originally on the jetty.(Or does Mr Concerned think the Jetty was always as dismal as it is today?) Furthermore, the developer has succeeded in convincing the Town Council that the whole jetty should be utilised. The further preservation of the Jetty that will be done is to his own account. This is a laudable effort and the developer should be encouraged instead of criticised.Who says that if the proposal is carried out as intended that the kiosks will be white elephants and that the bar will become a venue for revellers? So come on Mr Concerned, why not rather do some exciting development proposals yourself instead of behaving like an old aunty!
