I WISH to refer to an article in The Namibian of October 31 2007 under the heading: ‘Youth want to be involved in National matters’.
I agree fully that the youth should be involved in political matters. This is the right of any person to register, to vote and to participate.I also agree that not only the white youth but all white people should be involved in issues of National interest.During the opening of the Otjiwarongo agricultural show early this year, Mr Dirk Mudge also appealed to all Namibians to get involved. It was stated that the Otjiwarongo show earlier was one of the flagships in the row of agricultural shows. It also included the white farmers and business people who played a leading role in recent years. So, we are working on this issue to convince people to get involved and to reconcile. But there are a few issues that should be addressed and only you as part of the youth can do it.When I speak in Parliament on issues concerning “my part of the white tribe” I am not allowed the freedom of speech and we are being accused of having all the money and assets in this country of buying all the cattle on actions etc.I appealed to the Government to consider the possibility of removing the shackles of Affirmative Action from those who went to school in Independence year.A thunderstorm of emotion burst down on me and I received the message: “Not in a hundred years”! Even if you speak in the interest of the country, nobody believes the “white guy”.I warned about what is going on at NamWater where the management got rid of 17 competent Namibians. It was done as part of a racial-driven programme by Welbert Ockhuizen. It is not necessary to say more; everybody has seen the recent articles in newspapers. To conclude, we would like our people to become involved and we encourage them to do so.The problem is that most of our youth are no longer in Namibia or will leave soon, because they have to suffer the consequences of Affirmative Action.Jurie Viljoen 081 276 8478This is the right of any person to register, to vote and to participate.I also agree that not only the white youth but all white people should be involved in issues of National interest.During the opening of the Otjiwarongo agricultural show early this year, Mr Dirk Mudge also appealed to all Namibians to get involved.
