THE Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry would like to take the time to respond to a query that appeared in The Namibian, Wednesday, July 9 2008.
The SMS wanted to hear from the Permanent Secretary of this Ministry on when they are going to be employed? In that the Ministry is not the sole provider of employment in the Republic of Namibia, so it is difficult to determine when a public member seeking employment is going to be employed. The public member mentioned that he/she has been applying for vacant posts (assumed) but there has been no response/feedback to his/her application of employment. In this case the public member did not mention for which position he/she has been applying, in order for the Ministry to determine whether the applied position is still vacant or not.The Ministry has no obligation to give employment, nor promised to employ all graduates from tertiary education institutions who studied in agricultural related fields. The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, just like any other institution, has limited capacity for employment, and (it) is therefore impossible to employ all graduates. It should also be noted that skills development is not for public service only but for the national economy, therefore graduates should not expect to be employed in one institution but can take up employment within various institutions in the country, being in private or public sector!
