Tennis Academy’s young champs

PRO Tennis Academy held a successful tennis tournament where a mini-tennis tournament was held for the under-8 and under-10 boys and girls from different schools in Namibia.

This tournament was a Pro Tennis Academy Young Tennis Stars initiative. The tournament saw 45 competitors fighting for honours in the last mini-tennis tournament on the Pro Tennis Academy calendar.In the under-8 girls’ group, the up and coming Maryke Schickerling and Marinda Schutz from the Young Tennis Stars programme impressed everyone with their talent.”We look forward to having most of these youngsters going through all the stages of the programmes to become good tennis players,” said the tournament director and head coach, Elizma Nortjé.In their bid to promote competition at all levels, Pro Tennis Academy held a doubles tournament that was classified in three groups, namely bronze, silver and gold.The level of competition was impressive taking into account that it was a mixed tournament in terms of levels.Pro Tennis Academy players had a fine year, with the just ended NTA Junior Masters event.Only the top eight players in each age group qualified and are invited to take part in the Junior Masters tournament.Pro Tennis Academy players who qualified for the Masters Tournament are Michal Muller, Leré Nieuwoudt, Oliver Koepp, Veja Hinda, Nicolay Palmhert, Kudzai Toto, Dantago Gawanab, Jannick Palmhert, Nguvi Hinda, Chrisna Matthee, Johan Matthee, Kimber Brain, Francois Muller, Katu Jacobs.”As director and head coach, I am impressed in the achievement of most of the Pro Tennis Academy players in all age groups.We look forward to the coming year and without quality coaches such as Norman Makuwaza and Freeman Nyamunokora these opportunities for the players would not have been possible,” said Nortje.Full results were: Mini-tennis Tournament Under-8 girls: Winner: Marinda Schutz, runner-up: Maryke Schickerling, second runner-up: Carlota Geraldes, third: Sofia Ribeiro Under-8 boys: Winner: Liam Hermanus, runner-up: Lian Theron, third: Veri Hinda, fourth: Berndt Bronkhorst Under-10 girls: Winner: Rosie Church, runner-up: Enid Duncan, third: Gillian Hermanus, Fourth: Unondja Tjakuva Under-10 boys: Winner: Janno Riecket, runner-up: JD Nel, third: Hanne Brandt, fourth: Golden Sihlahla Doubles Tournament Bronze: First: Ruvan Van Staden and PD Theron Second: Dantago Gawanab and Kudzai Toto Silver: First: Jonathan Tattersall and Bjorn van den Berg Second: Julia and Rene Kraft Third: Rieckert Behr and Andre Botha Gold: First: Elifas and Simon Second: Johan Matthee and Michal Muller Third: Freeman Nyammubora and Chris MattheeThe tournament saw 45 competitors fighting for honours in the last mini-tennis tournament on the Pro Tennis Academy calendar.
