BRAVE Warriors head coach Ben Bamfuchile has included ten new faces in his squad of 32 players to prepare for the African Nations Cup qualifier against Libya on March 25.
The squad has been broadened to give players a chance to prove themselves on the highest level. The notable newcomers include Civics defender Donnelly Nell, who has been overlooked for long despite his sterling gate-keeping job for the two-time league champions.Nell is a strong central defender who controls his backline with efficiency, while his ball control and aerial abilities are unquestionable.Former Warriors midfielder Oliver Risser has also been called from the wilderness, as he is currently turning out for German lower division side Bonner SC.Risser, who has already represented the country at that level, is stable and aggressive on the ground and is also extremely reliable in the air, but lacks pace and mobility.Orlando Pirates’ hard-tackling defender and team captain, Ivan Namaseb, also made the squad after showing good form for his side this season.Namaseb has the perfect height to match strikers and his good sense of reading the game from the back makes him one of the outstanding defenders in the domestic league.Upfront, Bamfuchile called up Black Africa’s free-scoring striker, Jerome Louis.Louis, a fantastic finisher in front of goal, will be going to the senior team’s camp for the first time in his life. The BA striker, who is the son of former Black Africa great Rusten Mogane, has the potential of solving Namibia’s goal-scoring famine on the international level, provided he keeps his feet on the ground.Black Africa defender Immanuel Gaeb has also been given a chance to the national fold and will fight it out for a place against the more experienced likes of Hartman Toromba, Michael Pienaar and Richard Gariseb.Generally, Namibia has an abundance of impressive defenders, but their lack of concentration at crucial times and poor communication with the goalkeepers are a cause of concern.Orlando Pirates’ dribbling wizard Ettiene Beukes was also given a lifeline by the Zambian-born coach, and will have to battle for a spot against the more senior strikers currently in the side. The former Deportivo Alaves player has developed into a formidable attacker and scores crucial goals for his side.Beukes plays an important role as the left winger of the ‘Buccaneers’ and regular exposure at international level can turn just unlock the wealth of potential in him.Civics midfield maestro Rudi Louw also got the nod to the team after a long absence. The stocky football genius is an excellent attacker and it will be his chance to permanently cement a place for himself in the national side.Surprisingly, Bamfuchile was also impressed by twin brothers Tara and Muna Katupose, who both play for Epupa Eleven. The two strikers made their mark in The Namibian Newspaper Cup held in Oshakati in 2004, where they represented the Kunene Region. They also played in the 2005 edition of the same competition in Mariental. The two are relatively young and still have time to carve places in the senior side in future. They both lack experience on national level, but are opportunistic in front of goal.Other players included from the lower division are Deon Naruseb from Robber Chanties and Eddy Masweu from Namib Chiefs. Both are strikers and relatively unknown, even on junior national level. The chosen players will be allowed to represent their clubs during the MTC NFA Cup matches this weekend, before they report at Soccer House on Sunday at 19h00.The foreign-based players will be joining the camp at a later stage. The squad of 32 was announced as follows: Goalkeepers: Athiel Mbaha (Black Leopards), Ephraim Tjihonge (Black Leopards), Abisai Shiningayamwe (Jomo Cosmos) Defenders: Michael Pienaar (Ramblers), Richard Gariseb
