TELECOM Namibia is pushing to have restrictions on its Switch operations lifted during the course of this year.
Telecom’s Managing Director, Frans Ndoroma, said the company would enter into consultations with the relevant authorities to lift that the restrictions imposed on its mobile telecommunication operation nine months ago. These restrictions were enforced after an outcry from other mobile operators who argued that it was illegal for Telecom to compete with them.”Once again, there is nothing wrong with competition and this is an open market. It is good for the people to have choices,” Ndoroma said.He made the remarks Wednesday at the handing over of 225 fully connected Switch mobile phones and starter packs to 52 selected children’s shelters and old age homes countrywide.Despite the restrictions, Ndoroma said Switch was doing fine, adding: “Once the restrictions are lifted our operations will flourish.”After imposing the restrictions, an Ad-Hoc Committee was established by Cabinet to investigate the alleged illegal operations of a mobile telecommunication service by Telecom.Prime Minister Nahas Angula was appointed as the Chairperson of the committee, and other members were the Ministers of Justice, Information and Broadcasting and Works, Transport and Communication. The outcome of the committee’s investigation has not been made public yet.NampaThese restrictions were enforced after an outcry from other mobile operators who argued that it was illegal for Telecom to compete with them.”Once again, there is nothing wrong with competition and this is an open market. The outcome of the committee’s investigation has not been made public yet.Nampa
