NAMIBIA’S hosting of the Next Step conference received a major boost late last week, when Telecom Namibia announced a sponsorship of N$109 000 towards the event.
Telecom Namibia pledged N$40 000 towards the Next Step Youth festival, N$69 000 for the official opening ceremony as well as a fully equipped media room with wireless Internet connection. Telecom Namibia’s managing director, Frans Ndoroma, said Telecom was pleased to be associated with the Next Step conference, which aims to discuss the many ways in which sport can be used for the development of young Namibians, by turning the sport-as-a-tool idea into a more systematic exercise.”Telecom Namibia agreed to sponsor the Next Step conference because, first of all, as it is a celebration of the recognition of sport as a development tool – a festive occasion that will be further enhanced by the presence of many dignitaries, including His Excellency President Hifikepunye Pohamba,” said Ndoroma.”Secondly this is an occasion to access what has been achieved on the ground since the 2005 conference held in Zambia. The rationale behind the Next Step initiative is to create avenues which would provide a solid platform for young sport leaders to champion the Olympic values of friendship and fair play and become the leaders of tomorrow.”Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture Minister John Mutorwa, said at the handover that sport can be used to promote noble values and principles of togetherness and friendship.”Different countries will be brought closer together because of sport.Sport is not only the action you see on the playing ground; that is only one part of sport.Sport is broader than just action,” he said.Erwin Handura, the local project manager of the Next Step conference said the main aspects of the seminar had been covered now following the monetary sponsorship from Telecom Namibia. He added that a television crew from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is expected to arrive in the country tomorrow to get set up before the main event starts.Namibia SportTelecom Namibia’s managing director, Frans Ndoroma, said Telecom was pleased to be associated with the Next Step conference, which aims to discuss the many ways in which sport can be used for the development of young Namibians, by turning the sport-as-a-tool idea into a more systematic exercise.”Telecom Namibia agreed to sponsor the Next Step conference because, first of all, as it is a celebration of the recognition of sport as a development tool – a festive occasion that will be further enhanced by the presence of many dignitaries, including His Excellency President Hifikepunye Pohamba,” said Ndoroma.”Secondly this is an occasion to access what has been achieved on the ground since the 2005 conference held in Zambia. He added that a television crew from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is expected to arrive in the country tomorrow to get set up before the main event starts.Namibia Sport
