THE Leo NFA Cup reaches the second round of competition after the preliminary round were completed recently.
The most lucrative competition in Namibian football saw action-filled games across the country as clubs battled for places in the last 32.The last 32 clubs will comprise of 13 regional winners, two finalists from the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) with the Northern Stream First Division (NSFD) having three spots, the current 12 Premiership clubs, and the last two clubs that we relegated from the premiership last season. These are Chief Santos and Mighty Gunners.The SSFD will be represented by Tura Magic and Young Beauties after the duo met in their league’s final and the NSFD will be decided on Saturday at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo with the first semi-finals at 08h00 as Eleven Warriors meet Onambula United.Robber Chanties and Golden Bees clash in the second semi-final before the final at 18h00. The best losing semi-finalist will join the two finalists in the last 32 of the Leo NFA Cup.In the second divisions, in Kunene region, Gariseb Orlando Pirates beat Black Africa Warriors 3-0 to advance, Spoilers defeated Red Fighters 1-0 in Khomas and Bee Bob Brothers were victorious in Hardap with a 3-0 win over Nampol.In Karas, Try Again defeated Atlanta Bucks 1-0 in the final and Kavango United beat Nampol Real Top Challengers 1-0 to advance into the last 32 from the Kavango Region.Shaluza Chiefs beat Eastern Chiefs 2-1 in the Omaheke final and African Lions bested Golden Fire 2-1 in the Otjozondjupa leg.In the Caprivi region, Space Age are through to the last 32 after beating Black Hawks 1-0 and there was an identical score line for Sailors over Western Spurs in the Erongo region.Young Rangers beat Onathinge United 4-0 in the Oshikoto region while Oshikango United triumphed over Namudjebo FC 2-1 in the Ohangwena region. Omeege United demolished African United 5-1 in the Oshana region’s final.The last 32 have been moved from the weekend of February 27 to March 6-7 with venues still to be confirmed.Winners of the Leo NFA Cup receives N$600 000, with the runner-up to pocket N$250 000 with the two losing semi-finalists getting N$100 000 each.In individual player prizes, the Top Goal Scorer and the Payer of the Series will each be N$25 000 richer. – NFA Secretariat
