THE Team Namibia membership bidding process for its six founding sponsoring companies initially scheduled to start early this month, will however, start today on the Team Namibia website.
The successful six companies will be announced at close of bidding on Friday. Team Namibia will select two founding sponsors from each of the three categories, which are parastatals or companies with 50 per cent government shareholding, local companies and regional or international companies. The founding sponsors are expected to contribute US$50 000 each or more to Team Namibia. In an interview with The Namibian, Chief Executive Officer of the Namibian Manufacturers Association, Hennie Fourie, who is a member of the Team Namibia steering committee, said delays for the bidding process were due to lack of funds and delay in setting up a website. He, however, added that the problems have since been rectified.”We continue to receive applications for membership from a variety of Namibian businesses while a good number of large companies have shown interest in bidding for the founding sponsors membership category …The process will be done electronically… and the process will be kept transparent and open.”Membership in Team Namibia will be categorised as founder members, ordinary members and affiliate members.Team Namibia launched in March by President Sam Nujoma, signified the beginning of a coordinated campaign aimed at developing and marketing a generic brand for Namibian products, services and destinations. The development is meant to create a sense of pride among Namibians as well as market the country.Becoming a Team Namibian member, however, does not guarantee the use of the Naturally Namibian logo, which will be used on Namibian products , services and destinations of acceptable quality. To register as a bidder, companies should visit the Team Namibia website on www.teamnamibia.com.Team Namibia will select two founding sponsors from each of the three categories, which are parastatals or companies with 50 per cent government shareholding, local companies and regional or international companies. To register as a bidder, companies should visit the Team Namibia website on www.teamnamibia.com.
