Taxis, stick to rules – Pohamba

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba says taxis should stick to traffic rules and regulations like all other road users.

‘Violent demonstrations which we have seen in recent weeks will serve no purpose and should not be tolerated,’ warned Pohamba. He said relevant Government departments should engage the parties concerned and provide leadership to resolve the matter once and for all. Opening the first session of Cabinet yesterday, Pohamba added that crime and corruption must be fought tooth and nail. ‘The snake of corruption must be hit very hard on the head. So too must all other forms of unethical behaviour that may occur in society,’ he emphasised. ‘Our citizens must adopt an ethical posture and expose all forms of corruption, embezzlement of funds and abuse or wastage of public resources,’ said the Head of State, adding that law enforcement agencies and officials should ‘mercilessly’ deal with perpetrators. He added that Government should introduce more vigorous weapon control mechanisms.
