Taxi! Police call for help in murder case

POLICE want a Windhoek taxi driver who was working on New Year’s Eve to come forward and help their investigation of a deadly shooting in Khomasdal.

The driver, Police say, conveyed the suspected murderer of Monalisa Shirley de Kock (23) – Manuel Alberto da Silva (27) – to the Khomasdal school ground where just minutes later she was shot five times in the head. The taxi driver – said by other passengers in his car to have been a tall, coloured man, strongly built – is thought to have been driving a dark-coloured taxi – possibly dark blue or green – with tinted windows.The taxi was a Toyota Conquest, a Mazda Midge, or a similar-looking car.At about 22h30 on New Year’s Eve, the driver dropped off De Kock and Da Silva in Pronkertjie Street, Khomasdal, near the entrance gate to the Ella du Plessis High School, the Police reported.The couple had earlier been picked up from the Otjomuise No. 3 taxi rank.They are said to have quarrelled during the taxi ride.De Kock was wearing a pink blouse and pink trousers and carried a red, see-through plastic handbag with her; her companion – alleged to be Da Silva – was dressed in a black jacket and cream-coloured trousers and had a video camera with him, Police said.Case investigators are asking the taxi driver, or anyone who may know him, to contact the Detective Warrant Officer George Xoagub, at the Serious Crime Unit, on (081) 277 8185, or Detective Chief Inspector Nelius Becker at (081) 129 9215.The taxi driver – said by other passengers in his car to have been a tall, coloured man, strongly built – is thought to have been driving a dark-coloured taxi – possibly dark blue or green – with tinted windows.
