PEOPLE should learn to use infrastructural development brought to them by the government to their advantage, regional councillor for Karasburg East, Dennis Coetzee says.
He was speaking at the belated Independence Day celebrations for the Keetmanshoop Rural constituency at Aroab on Saturday.
Coetzee said in terms of infrastructural development, a lot had been done since independence, and inhabitants of the region should see this development as an opportunity, instead of vandalising it.
“A lot has changed. There are now schools here for everyone, soccer fields for everyone, and a lot of other infrastructure. How we use these things matters,” he stated.
He added that it does not help if the government continues to invest and try to bring development if people are not willing to use for their benefit what is provided. Coetzee furthermore urged the inhabitants of Aroab to work hard to secure a better future for their children, and to also work with the government to develop the village.
“I want to see the children born now to have a better life. If we work together, we can and shall change Aroab,” he observed.
Also speaking was Keetmanshoop Rural constituency councillor, Elias Kharuxab, who said his constituency is predominantly rural, with roads which are not tarred, which is a big challenge for people who live there.
“All our roads, the access roads, are accident-prone and dusty, and need to be tarred. We also have situations in Klein Karas, where houses are dilapidated and need urgent renovation,” he added. – Nampa
