FORMER CoD member Frans Basson, who has now joined the Democratic Party of Namibia (DPN), has accused the Swapo Party leadership of being ‘self-centred’.
Basson made these remarks at the party’s public meeting on Saturday at Keetmanshoop. Referring to a recent statement by Fisheries Minister Abraham Iyambo, in which he denounced other political parties’ history as ‘shameful’, Basson hit back by claiming that the Swapo Party’s history is dogged by ‘unemployment, poverty and corruption’.He said other political parties might be referred to as ‘poor people’, but they do not deplete the country’s resources. According to Basson, the people of the South have become second-class citizens in their own country. Basson pledged that the DPN would implement the Basic Income Grant programme if voted into power. He added that the DPN would trim the number of parliamentarians to 30 and use the cost savings to improve the lives of people who are languishing in poverty.luqman@namibian.com.na
