RUNDU – The Swapo Party was sent by God to liberate Namibia from colonialism, and people should not to be confused by the mushrooming of other political parties in the country, a traditional chief said on Tuesday.
Speaking during the handover of a house to a war veteran at the Sauyemwa informal settlement on the outskirts of Rundu, a senior headman of the Mbunza Traditional Authority in the Kavango Region, Samuel Hausiku, who regards himself as a ‘Swapo Party headman’, charged that those who are forming new political parties are just looking for money to enrich themselves, and not necessarily to serve the people. The controversial headman, who was recently reinstated by Mbunza leader Chief Alfons Kaundu after having been fired as headman last year for alleged corruption, urged his subjects to refrain from tribalism, and to rather concentrate on working together for a common goal. He also applauded the Swapo-led government for its initiative to build houses for war veterans. The Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs on Tuesday handed over a house to 90-year-old retired Colonel Shipuna Shivute, who spent most of his youth in Tanganyika, currently known as Tanzania, fighting for Namibia’s liberation.Shivute’s house was built by the Wakudumo Civil Engineering company at a cost of N$500 000. – Nampa
