Swapo for Justice founder dies

THE founder-leader of the now defunct opposition Swapo for Justice party, Sakarias Nghiwete Ndjoba, died in the Eenhana Hospital on Sunday after a long illness.

Ndjoba had left Swapo for Justice to join another opposition party, the Congress of Democrats (CoD), prior to his death. CoD spokesperson for the North, Agapitus Hausiku, confirmed Ndjoba’s death yesterday.Last year Ndjoba attempted suicide by drinking battery water.His health deteriorated rapidly after that incident.Ndjoba, who was a member of Swapo’s military wing, the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (Plan) during the liberation struggle, joined the Namibian Defence Force soon after Independence.He resigned from the NDF in 1995 to form Swapo for Justice.The party collapsed in 1997.The late Ndjoba also served as a human rights activist in the Ohangwena Region.He is survived by his mother and four children.A family member told The Namibian yesterday that Ndjoba’s funeral will take place at his mother’s village at Onduudhiya, in the Ohangwena Region, this weekend.CoD spokesperson for the North, Agapitus Hausiku, confirmed Ndjoba’s death yesterday.
