SWAPO has condemned the weekend killing of Outjo farmer, Karl Heinz Montermann, and urged members of the public to provide the Police with any information that may lead to the arrest of the killers.
Swapo Regional Coordinator for Opuwo, Samtaka Katjizemo, yesterday praised the late Montermann for his contribution to Namibia’s economy through his work in the farming and tourism industry.”Mr Montermann was known for bringing much needed foreign currency, through his tourism business, into the country and has as such contributed substantially to the economic development of this country,” Katjizemo said in a statement. “I condemn this brutal intentional killing and mafia-type syndicate robberies in the strongest possible terms and wish to call on law enforcement agents to use any means at their disposal to apprehend and bring the culprits to book for justice to take its course. We cannot compromise the safety and peace of our people at the hands of criminals,” he said. The party expressed condolences to Montermann’s widow Ursela, wishing her strength and a speedy recovery.Mrs Montermann was found lying unconscious at their farmhouse when Police arrived on the scene late on Saturday evening. Her husband’s tied up body was also discovered outside the farmstead.By yesterday Police had reported no progress in the hunt for the killers, who also robbed the farming couple of N$5 000, 4 000 euros, 2 100 euro in travellers’ cheques and the couples’ pet dog.The gang also stole some car keys from the farmer’s house.Meanwhile, relatives of the Montermann family arrived in the country from Germany this week to assist with the funeral arrangements.”I condemn this brutal intentional killing and mafia-type syndicate robberies in the strongest possible terms and wish to call on law enforcement agents to use any means at their disposal to apprehend and bring the culprits to book for justice to take its course. Her husband’s tied up body was also discovered outside the farmstead.By yesterday Police had reported no progress in the hunt for the killers, who also robbed the farming couple of N$5 000, 4 000 euros, 2 100 euro in travellers’ cheques and the couples’ pet dog.The gang also stole some car keys from the farmer’s house.Meanwhile, relatives of the Montermann family arrived in the country from Germany this week to assist with the funeral arrangements.
