BIG business, residents and the Swakopmund Municipality have taken hands to clean up the rubbish littering the roadside between Swakopmund and Arandis.
The cleanup of the 60-km stretch of road is sponsored by Namibia Breweries Limited and Roessing Uranium Mine. The roadside will be divided into 12 ten-kilometre sections, and welfare organisations, sport clubs, churches and schools are invited to “adopt” one of these sections. Each organisation will then be expected to clean its section and keep it clean for the next six months in exchange for a monthly donation of N$1 000.Furthermore, a monthly cash reward will be paid for the three cleanest sections. This project will kick off on World Environment Day, June 5, when the names of the responsible organisations will be announced.Organisations interested in taking part are invited to contact the following persons on or before June 2: Ms Potgieter at tel.410 4240 or 081 285 5305, or Mr Lubbe at 520 2382.The roadside will be divided into 12 ten-kilometre sections, and welfare organisations, sport clubs, churches and schools are invited to “adopt” one of these sections. Each organisation will then be expected to clean its section and keep it clean for the next six months in exchange for a monthly donation of N$1 000.
