SWAKOPMUND CEO Eckart Demasius will address the community on February 4 regarding the process of selling open space at the Mole to Ohlthaver and List for the development of the Kempinski Strand Hotel.
The meeting will start at 19h00 and will be held at the Tamariskia Town Hall.Last year a public feedback meeting in Swakopmund regarding the latest design of the five-star Kempinski Strand Hotel drew a large crowd. Most attendants were against the new hotel, and their main objection was that the development would severely restrict the historic and popular oublic open space at the Mole. The size of the hotel is also a major problem to the community. One of the biggest questions at the meeting was why the municipality had sold a prime public area for private development.’Demasius will show what practical steps were followed in the sale of the property, and present evidence relating to the alienation of the portion of the open space for the extension of the hotel by O&L. He will not be speaking about the hotel,’ a source told The Namibian.
