Suicides and road accidents mar the week

AT least three people died in road accidents during the course of last week, in various parts of the country.

In Windhoek, Ruben Angula (25) died in the early hours of Saturday morning in Havana, after the vehicle he was driving collided with an oncoming car. The accident took place on Monte Christo Road at around 01h30, and Angula died on the spot. Police investigations are ongoing.At Okahao on Thursday, Thengelako Andrae Shaanika (40) died after the car in which he was travelling overturned on the Okahao-Illokola gravel road. He died of his injuries, while six others, including the driver, were admitted to the Okahao and Oshakati hospitals with serious injuries. All six are currently in a stable condition.In another road accident at Oniimbwele village near Ondangwa on Thursday, Joel Kristian (38) died on the spot when a tyre of the car in which he was travelling burst, causing the driver to lose control. The two others in the car sustained serious injuries.* Two people hanged themselves and one shot himself last week.The first suicide, on Wednesday, was Johannes Shigwedha Shigwedha (31), who used a rope to hang himself under a tree at around 13h00 on Wednesday afternoon at Iipanda village in the Omusati Region.In another case at Ondangwa, 40-year-old Anna Gideon used a scarf to hang herself in her bedroom at around 07h00 at Ikango village. The third case, at Kasekelonga Village in the Ngoma area of the Caprivi Region, 72-year-old Raymand Kwenani Kwenani shot himself on Thursday afternoon. Police investigations continue in all three cases.* At Rehoboth, Paul Kharuchab (28) died on the spot after he was stabbed on Saturday afternoon at Block B. A suspect was arrested.* A robbery in Ongava Street in Okuryangava almost claimed the life of a man, when three unknown suspects broke into his house, held him at gunpoint, and robbed him of items valued at N$4 540. No arrests were made, and none of the items have been recovered yet.
