I WRITE this letter as a mother, a mother whose spirit is broken, a mother who has to keep her child in the house in fear of losing her.
At the age of 25, I’m a mother of a two-year-old, but even at this young age, when I should be strong, concentrate on my work, sleep peacefully and live peacefully, I am tormented by the killing of our children. Every time I hear about another mother’s child who has been brutally murdered, it feels like my own.And so I shed tears, tears of sorrow and pain, for I do not know what haunts our Namibian men – our sons, fathers and brothers.I feel so hopeless, like my hands have been cut off, because I do not know when they will strike again and where… A month ago it happened just three houses away from ours.I love my daughter so much, and I want the best for her.Safety is one of the things I want for her, but I don’t know how to obtain safety because safety is no more. And whether you are my son, my brother or my father, I do not have mercy for you, only the justice system does. For I see them protecting you like a king who has done no evil. And so our children die, one after the other, but still no change. What to do now?
