Suburbs face Wanderers

WESTERN Suburbs will meet Wanderers in the semi-finals of the MTC Premier League at the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium this weekend.

Western Suburbs managed to claim the final semi-final spot when they beat Unam 23-0 at Suburbs Park on September 8. The victory saw them edging Unam into fourth spot on the log with 16 points, while Unam dropped down to fifth spot on 15 points.Suburbs will now meet Wanderers, who finished top of the log on 20 points, in a match they will be determined to win.The first round of the league was delayed due to a court case that Wanderers lodged against Suburbs for using incomplete player’s registration cards. An independent arbiter eventually judged in Suburbs’ favour but the first round final had to be delayed by close to two months before Suburbs could take on Reho Falcon.Reho Falcon won that match to win their first ever Premier League title, but Wanderers gained revenge when they beat Suburbs in a second round league match 36-22.Wanderers’ heavier forwards could hold the answer for victory, as they are expected to win most of the possession up front.Suburbs are also without their star lineout jumper Wacca Kazombiaze, who is representing Namibia at the World Cup, while Wanderers can call upon players like Heinz Koll and Jassie Genis up front. But Suburbs have a swift backline and in players like wing McGrath van Wyk and fullback Ricardo Snyders they will be especially dangerous on the counter attack and from broken play.FALCONS VS UNITED The other semi-final will be between Reho Falcons and United.Reho Falcons won the first round of the Premier League when they beat Suburbs in the final and they will be keen to show that that was not a fluke. They hold a psychological edge over United, having beaten them 38-31 in their second round encounter, while they also beat Wanderers 38-22 in the second round. They, however, are a bit inconsistent and surprisingly lost 20-6 to Unam and 17-13 to Suburbs.Their swift backline is also their strong point, where players like Howard Titus, Desmond Snyders, Cliff Loubser and Elrich Jansen could hold the key.United will be considerably weakened after losing their top players to Namibia’s World Cup squad, and Reho Falcons might just hold the edge here. Some of United’s top players who will miss the match include captain Herman Lintvelt, flanker Michael Mackenzie, scrumhalf Jurie van Tonder, flyhalf Morne Schreuder and centre Du Preez Grobler.Reho Falcons will play United in the first semi-final at 17h20, while Wanderers will play Suburbs in the second semi-final at 19h00.The semi-finals of the MTC Regional League will also be held.Kudus take on Reho Falcons II at 14h00 while Jaguars take on Wanderers II at 15h40.www.namibiasport.com.naThe victory saw them edging Unam into fourth spot on the log with 16 points, while Unam dropped down to fifth spot on 15 points.Suburbs will now meet Wanderers, who finished top of the log on 20 points, in a match they will be determined to win.The first round of the league was delayed due to a court case that Wanderers lodged against Suburbs for using incomplete player’s registration cards. Some of United’s top players who will miss the match include captain Herman Lintvelt, flanker Michael Mackenzie, scrumhalf Jurie van Tonder, flyhalf Morne Schreuder and centre Du Preez Grobler.Reho Falcons will play United in the first semi-final at 17h20, while Wanderers will play Suburbs in the second semi-final at 19h00.The semi-finals of the MTC Regional League will also be held.Kudus take on Reho Falcons II at 14h00 while Jaguars take on Wanderers II at 15h40.www.namibiasport.com.na
