THE jobs of about 180 Brukkaros Meat Processors workers are on the line because of their involvement in an illegal strike that cost the company N$300 000.
A wage dispute between the management and union representatives had resulted in the illegal strike on March 30.
The workers then demanded a 13 per cent increase while the company had offered increases ranging between 3,81 per cent and 4,7 per cent.
The parties later agreed on increases ranging between six and 10 per cent.
The recommendation to fire the 180 workers followed a disciplinary hearing at which they were found guilty on several misconduct charges related to the illegal strike.
The charges included participating in an unlawful strike, intentionally or negligently causing damage to the employer, gross insubordination, intimidation or incitement of co-employees and unbecoming behaviour detrimental to the interest of the employer.
All affected skilled and semi-skilled workers had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The workers have been given three days to appeal after receiving letters informing them of their dismissal.
