Stranded farmers in need of help

THE Oshana Regional Council has asked the Emergency Management Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister to provide a helicopter to airlift food and medical assistance to farmers stranded in the Uuvudhiya communal farming area.

Arama Martin, the Regional Councillor for the Oshakati-West, told The Namibian this week that Uuvudhiya farmers have been cut off from towns such as Oshakati, Ongwediva and Ondangwa by water-filled pans.Martin said the appeal was made after their Regional Council meeting last Friday. Martin said they also want Government to provide them with motorboats to help people in Uuvudhiya.Martin warned people to be careful when crossing oshanas, as they can be deeper than they look.absalom@namibian.com.na
