Growing from an idea to a fully fledged organisation, the Step By Step Knowledge Organisation has been going around the country educating children on discipline and focusing on schools under the discipline programme.
The organisation has had campaigns all over the country including at Opuwo, Ovitoto and Opuwo. This time around, they are taking their successful campaign to Eiseb Block in the Omaheke region. “We want to invite the chiefs to our events because these are very important meetings,” chief executive officer of the Step By Step Knowledge Organisation Vinomaandero Murirua told YouthPaper.
“We need to ask ‘how can we discipline our school pupils? Should we cut their hair? Should we make them wear longer school uniforms? We need to speak about these things. And so we are inviting school pupils to discuss these issues,” Murirua said.
From 28 May to 4 June, the organisation will be hosting talks for pupils while on 5 June, there will be a parents meeting. Afterwards, the organisation will be heading to Gam from 8 to 12 June to have more talks with pupils and a parents meeting once again on 13 June.
Regional councillor and principal of Epukiro Post 3 Junior Secondary School in the Omaheke region, Cornelius Kanguatjivi has recommended the programme to schools around the country. “My personal experience of this programme is that it is highly recommended to any school or institution, hence if our pupils are disciplined, the aim of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture will be easily realised.” Just recently, the organisation met up with deputy minister of information, communications and technology Engel Nawatiseb and formed an agreement to spread the campaign.
“We’re not getting paid. We’re just doing this because we have this hunger for our pupils to succeed,” Murirua said. “Inspectors and directors in the Ministry of Education have been very supportive as well as the town councils in the towns we have been in,” Murirua confirmed.
And this year promises an even bigger and better campaign.
