State funerals for Nguvauva, Tjiriange

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has granted state funerals for the late chief Kilus Nguvauva and Ngarikutuke Tjiriange.

Nguvauva died on 1 July, at the age of 64.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the president conveyed his condolences to the family of the late Nguvauva, the Ovambanderu Traditional Authority and the Ovambanderu community.

“May the soul of late Ombara Kilus Munjuku Karaerua Nguvauva III rest in eternal peace,” the president stated.

The president said the remains of Nguvauva will be interred on a date and place to be agreed on in consultation with the deceased’s family.

The Ovambanderu community has selected Gerson Katjirua as its acting chief and chairperson following the death of Nguvauva.

Tjiriange died on 23 June, at the age of 78.

The remains of Tjiriange will be buried at the Heroes Acre in the Khomas region on Thursday.

In a separate statement released on Tuesday, the president described Tjiriange as a dedicated leader who served the country as the first minister of justice, Swapo secretary general and minister of veterans affairs.

“On behalf of the people and the Namibian government and the Swapo party, I extend condolences to his wife, the children, and the family,” the president stated.
