Stars hope to stretch lead

THE one-all draw by Orlando Pirates against Ramblers on Wednesday night gave defending champions African Stars a chance to stretch their lead at the summit of the table when they meet Eleven Arrows in Walvis Bay tomorrow.

Pirates wasted an opportunity to keep Stars in check after the log leaders were three points ahead prior to the midweek encounter which saw Ramblers spoiling the chances of the Buccaneers in the end.Ramblers struck the first goal through Ananias Gebhardt who struck a beauty past Athiel Mbaha, before Sam Ipinge levelled matters through a lob into the roof of the net to ensure Pirates a point in the end.The draw did not auger too well for Pirates after they were also held to a goalless draw by Oshakati City last weekend, while Ramblers coach Ali Akan was also not a happy man after his key striker Eusebio Fredericks was red-carded with only a minute to go before the end.Stars will be hoping to cause an upset at the Kuisebmond Stadium to consolidate on their lead, while they will hope that other title rivals such as Black Africa, Blue Waters and Tigers also falter at the weekend.Black Africa meet Hotspurs tonight at 20h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, while on Saturday, Oshakati City take on Civics in Embandu at 16h00. Blue Waters have to deal with SKW at 16h00 at the SKW Stadium, while Tigers host United Stars at the Sam Nujoma Stadium at 20h00, also on Saturday.
