A WARRANT of execution has been issued against a Swapo youth member whom the High Court instructed to pay N$60 000 for damages in a defamation case.
Lazarus Nangolo was told to pay the money to Oranjemund businessman Stephanus ‘Steven’ Unoovene because of character defamation.
While addressing Swapo Party rallies at Oranjemund on November 16 2007 and March 10 last year, Nangolo alleged that Unoovene’s business had received money allegedly stolen by RDP leader Hidipo Hamutenya.
Hamutenya quit Swapo last year and is leader of the Rally for Democracy and Progress.
High Court Judge Kato van Niekerk heard the case in July last year when Unoovene claimed that Nangolo’s statements caused him to suffer financially and also harmed his reputation.
Nangolo initially told The Namibian that he knew nothing about the case.
However, it was established yesterday that he had since been ‘running around’ to raise the funds to pay Unoovene.
Unoovene said his lawyers have issued a warrant of execution to attach Nangolo’s property since he had been unable to pay the N$60 000 for some time.
The Namibian was unable to get hold of Nangolo for his comment.
