South Africans living in Nam to vote tomorrow

WINDHOEK – Only 220 South Africans living in Namibia will cast their votes at the South African High Commission in Windhoek tomorrow.

Acting South African High Commissioner Peter Coetzee confirmed to Nampa yesterday that the country’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) informed their diplomatic mission that only 220 South Africans have informed the commission that they will be in Namibia during the elections slated for April 22.’Those who are entitled to vote are those who have indicated to the commission that they will not be in the country (South Africa) during elections, and they are allowed to cast their votes at the country’s High Commission in Namibia,’ said Coetzee.He stressed that only those 220 people will be allowed to vote tomorrow.The voting will start at 07h00 and end at 19h00.South Africa will hold national and provincial elections on April 22 to elect a new National Assembly as well as the provincial legislature in each province.The National Assembly consists of 400 members elected by proportional representation with a closed list approach.Two hundred members are elected from national party lists, the other 200 are elected from provincial party lists in each of the nine provinces.The National Assembly chooses the President of South Africa after each election.The premiers of each province are chosen by the winning majority in each provincial legislature.These will be the fourth general elections held since the end of the apartheid era in 1994. – Nampa
