Sorensen may defend Amunyela debt claim

THE drawn-out feud between businessmen Vincent Sorensen and Desmond Amunyela is far from over.

Despite ruling last week that Sorensen had no defence in good faith against Amunyela, former Acting Judge Andrew Corbett found that Sorensen may defend Amunyela’s N$2,1 million claim.Corbett did not grant the summary judgement application against Sorensen which was lodged by Amunyela. But, the former acting judge ordered, Sorensen has to foot Amunyela’s legal bill for the application.Furthermore, Sorensen must provide security to the Registrar of the High Court for any judgement including interest and legal costs which may be granted to Amunyela.Should Sorensen not comply with this order within a week, Amunyela may again bring an application for summary judgment.Part of Corbett’s reasoning is based on the fact that Sorensen admits that he had already paid N$700 000 to Amunyela ‘in respect of the acknowledgement of debt’.
