Somali pirates free hijacked Turkish ship

ANKARA – The owner of a Turkish ship commandeered off Somalia with 20 crew on board says pirates have freed the ship.

The Yasa Holding Company says pirates freed the Yasa Neslihan freighter yesterday.
The company earlier said the pirates had demanded a ransom for its return but it did not immediately say whether the company paid for the release.
The ship was seized on October 29 in the Gulf of Aden, which connects the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.
Pirates have commandeered two other Turkish ships in the region since then.
Piracy has soared off Somalia, which is caught up in an Islamic insurgency and has no functioning government. – Nampa-AP
